ICA minister visits repressed journalist

Agartala: May 21: On 17 May, a shamefull incident took place in the heart of the capital city of Agartala. Arindam Roy, OC of Collegetilla Outpost Police Station, unjustly arrested Photo journalist Nitai Dey while he was trying to refuel his bike at a petrol pump in Radhanagar. Arindam Roy was physically tortured him in the lock-up of East Agartala police station. After being tortured overnight, Nitai Dey was granted bail on a personal bond from the court on May 18. The court expressed dissatisfaction with the role of the police and directed the West District Superintendent of Police to investigate the OC of East Agartala Police Station and the OC of Collegetilla Outpost Police Station and submit a report to the court within three days.

On the same day, due to the movement of journalists from the morning of 18 May, the Superintendent of Police of West District dismissed the OC of Collegetilla Outpost Police Station for a temporary period and adds several conditions. After this incident, journalist Nitai Dey broke down emotionally. Minister for Information and Cultural Affairs Sushanta Chowdhury rushed to his house near Lake Chaumuhani Corporation Market on Saturday to see journalist Nitai Dey.

Minister Sushanta Chowdhury visited Nitai's house and inquired about his condition. He became aware of the events of that day. Later, Minister Sushanta Chowdhury told reporters that he was aware of the details of the incident. Photo journalist Nitai Dey is like younger brother to him. The accused police officer has already been punished on the instructions of the Chief Minister. The government is on the side of photojournalist Nitai.

If journalists or news media are weakened, the country cannot be taken forward. The things which happened to Nitai are unexpected. The present government is working sincerely for the development of journalists. Minister Sushanta Chowdhury was accompanied by Agartala Municipal Corporation Mayor Deepak Majumder and others. Minister Sushanta Chowdhury also assured that he would keep an eye on the photojournalist Nitai so that there would be no problem in the coming days.
