Cannabis seized worth Rs 40 lakh: 2 arrested

Agartala: May 22: Churaibari Police achieved success after recovered huge quantity of dried cannabis from a six-wheeler at Naka Point in front of Churaibari police station on Sunday.

According to tip-off, the police of Churaibari police station searched one vehicle after another since morning. Finally, after 12 noon, a six-wheeler lorry (PB 10 FF 5597) was leaving for Tripura from Agartala. As soon as the vehicle came in front of Churaibari Police Station, the vehicle was searched by Churaibari Police led by OC Drubajyoti Debbarma and other police personnel and officers. A total of 400 kg of dried cannabis in 51 packets was recovered from the secret place above the lorry.

The driver Sandeep Singh (39) of Panjab and co-driver Bikash Kumar (30) of Bihar were arrested. During interrogation, the police came to know that the cannabis was to be taken from Agartala to Guwahati. Meanwhile, the police said that they have recovered some secret information after the incident, that’s why the police do not want to release the pictures of the detainees now. They want to keep their pictures secret for the sake of investigation.

Dharmanagar sub-divisional officer Soumya Debbarma said that a total of 400 kg of cannabis in 51 packets was recovered from the six-wheeler, its estimated market value is Rs 40 lakh. Churaibari police have filed a case under NDPS and started investigation. The suspects will be sent to Dharmanagar district court tomorrow.

It is believed that the local police will raid the main warehouse of cannabis based on the statements of the detainees and may also call the owner of the container of the private transport department for interrogation .
