Shah Alam elected as Chairman of Waqf Board

Agartala: May 21: Shah Alam elected as the chairman of Tripura State Waqf Board today. After the death of Baharul Islam Majumdar, the post of Chairman of Tripura State Waqf Board became vacant. Therefore, an initiative was taken to fill the vacancy of Chairman of Tripura State Waqf Board through re-election. Accordingly, the election was held on this day.

Shah Alam was elected as the chairman of the 11-member Tripura State Waqf Board by 10 members present on the day. Shah Alam has replaced the late Baharul Islam Majumdar on this day. After being elected as the chairman of Tripura State Waqf Board, Shah Alam said that it is not a big issue to get the responsibility; it is a big issue to fulfill the responsibility.

He also said that he would work diligently for the betterment of the minority population. He added that during the previous Left Front government, the fund of the Waqf Board was Rs 25 lakh. After the establishment of the present government, the fund of the Waqf Board was first increased to Rs. 50 lakhs. Next time this fund has been increased to Rs. 60 lakhs. He further said that many properties of Waqf Board have been evicted during the previous government.
