Media is the mirror of society: Chief Minister
By Discover Tripura Correspondent

Agartala: Sept 21: “It is not right for the media to do anything that brings back the previous 35 years. Then again 35 years will be added. Therefore, it is the responsibility of every news media to publish true news without distorting the news because social change is not possible without the help of media. Media is the mirror of society”, Chief Minister Dr. Manik Saha made this remarks while speaking at the meeting of Tripura News Paper Society at Rabindra Satabarshiki Bhavan on Wednesday. He said media is the fourth pillar of democracy. There is no doubt about it.

But nowadays social media needs to be much moderated to publish news. So that people don't get confused. Appreciating the media Chief Minister said if you don't read the newspaper, you don't get satisfaction for the whole day. May the joy of news be hidden in each letter. The chief minister also said that no such victim should be associated with any group of media. The symbol of government media is sincere enough. But it has been seen that there are some small gangs in the media. But the government will not have faith in the one-eyed policy. Chief Minister Dr. Manik Saha said that the government wants to work properly and responsibly towards the media.

Newspapers in this state are not enemies of the elected government. The media wants to guide the elected government. Tripura state has a lot of reputation in media in the world. And keeping that reputation, the media wants to fulfill its responsibilities in the future. President of Tripura News Paper Society Subal Kumar De said this while addressing the conference. He also said that after 2018, media organization of Tripura state is fragmented and giving opportunity to the government. By doing this, no work is being done in the interest of journalists in the state. Former Chief Minister Biplab Kumar Deb has made journalists a victim of bureaucrats; he launched a monstrous advertising policy on the news media. Papers are doing this to keep the government under pressure. The media cannot tell the truth these days. Attacks are being brought down on the media without any notice. This type of attack is being done on the media only when it publishes news against the government. But in 2018, the media played a major role in ousting the arrogant government. He criticized Biplab Kumar Deb and said that Biplap Kumar Deb has created division among journalists. Even Biplab Kumar Dev has publicly threatened the media. Subal Kumar De strongly condemned it. He further said that the CBI investigation into the murder of two journalists in the history of Tripura state has not yet progressed. And the families of two deceased journalists are deprived of government facilities. Even today, journalists are being openly threatened. So far, 42 journalists have been attacked in the state in the last two to three years. But there is no proper investigation of any incident. Therefore, he demanded a sound investigation from the Chief Minister.

Minister of Information and Culture Department Sushant Chowdhury and Law Minister Ratanlal Nath were absent from the conference organized that day. The two ministers were absent despite promising to be present that day as they would not be able to hear the government's achievements in Kannur. The president of the organization Subal Kumar Dey gave judgment to the chief minister about that. At the end of his speech, he asked the Chief Minister to look at the achievements of the two ministers of the Assembly. Senior journalist and philanthropist of the state Satya Ranjan Khisa was felicitated in the conference organized on this day. Arun Nath, joint convener of the organization was also present in the organized conference.
