Agartala: April 10: In a significant operation, the police apprehended a four-wheeler Bolero car that was ingeniously disguised as an ambulance while attempting to smuggle 272 kg of dry cannabis. The vehicle, equipped with five number plates, was intercepted on its route from Sonamura to Sidhngchhara, passing through the jurisdiction of the Kumarghat police station.

The arrested individuals have been identified as Titon Mia and Maman Mia. Their residences are located in Sonamura Tamcha Bari and the Madhuban College Road area. The estimated market value of the seized cannabis exceeds Rs 55 lakh.

Earlier, the Bolero car, bearing the registration number TR 05 3115, evaded a police checkpoint by disregarding the signal at the Kumarghat police station. However, diligent pursuit by law enforcement officers led to the vehicle’s seizure in the Sidhngchhara region. The car has been impounded and is currently under the custody of the Kumarghat police station.

Both suspects will face charges under the Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances (NDPS) Act and are scheduled to appear before the Kailashahar District Court for legal proceedings. OC Shankar Saha of the Kumarghat police station confirmed the development.

This operation underscores the vigilance of law enforcement agencies in combating drug trafficking and ensuring public safety. The innovative use of an ambulance disguise highlights the lengths to which criminals will go to evade detection. Authorities remain committed to upholding the law and safeguarding communities from illicit activities.
