If BJP comes back to power, the electoral system will end in the country: Manik Sarkar
By Discover Tripura Correspondent

Agartala: April 11: In a recent election rally in Belonia, CPM politburo member and former Chief Minister of Tripura, Manik Sarkar, made a significant prediction regarding the upcoming Lok Sabha elections. He asserted that if the BJP returns to power, it would spell the end of the electoral system in the country. According to Sarkar, this election could be the last time citizens witness the democratic process, as their right to vote might be taken away.

Sarkar criticized the Prime Minister himself, alleging that the BJP-led government was undermining democracy and leading to its destruction. He even suggested that the BJP would establish a new form of governance.

Furthermore, Sarkar emphasized that religion should not be a prerequisite for citizenship. Rejecting the notion that one must accept a specific religion to retain citizenship, he asserted that the state should remain neutral and treat all religions equally.

Interestingly, Sarkar highlighted that despite receiving fewer votes, the BJP became the first political party in Tripura to hold a government assembly seat. He attributed this to the ruling party’s fear and their adoption of undemocratic practices.

Opposition leader Jitendra Chowdhury echoed Sarkar’s sentiments, framing the upcoming Lok Sabha elections as a battle to safeguard democracy and uphold the constitution. He pointed out that the BJP secured power with only 39% of the votes in the 2023 assembly elections, while 60% of the state’s population rejected the ruling party due to perceived deception.

As the election approaches, the stakes remain high, and citizens must decide the fate of democracy in Tripura.
